here is my 63 vespa 90, i have painted it tangelo orange with gold pearle dust from house of color. this scooter was nothing but a frame and engine when i bought it, it was torn down and sandblasted, rust cut out and metal straightened. the engine is the original 90cc, i have ported and polished, and decked the head, added a tuned pipe and larger carb, performance clutch, and street tires. its a real neat machine, three speed 2 stroke, sounds like a mad dirt bike, its not very fast as it tops out at about 52mph down hill with a tail wind but torque is crazy, once i pulled the front tire off the ground in second gear when the clutch was fresh. heck once a police pulled up to me at a red light and said i was crazy to be driving something so small and zippy on the streets, i was like whatever and with 89 mpg i am laughing all the way to the gas station.
VESPA 90 SUPER SPRINT (BM261)This is a special scooter. If there was a “top 10” list for the most desirable of all vintage scooters, we think the 90 Super Sprint would likely sit at the top of the list. These scooters had a 90cc motor with a four speed gearbox and were significantly more peppy than a standard 90cc Vespa. However, their looks were polarizing, and they were priced above a Vespa G.S., as the most expensive scooter in the Vespa line. If you are looking for the best scooter, in the absolute best condition, look no further: it just doesn’t get any better than this one.
Other Considerations For 90cc Engine SwapsThe first thing I suggest for anyone considering ANY engine swap is to have at least basic fabrication skills. 90cc ATV Engine Swap : How-ToThe details involved with removing and installing an engine are not included in this guide. Move back you your 90cc engine and slide the top pin that you just removed into the top hole of the 90cc engine. Slide the pin from the bottom of the scooter engine through the hole in the bottom of the ATV engine. One nice thing about the ATV engine is that it has a little more clearance than the scooter engine.
Boy was I suprised, got up close to 70MPH (thats about 113kmh) just on a straight after a slight uphill!! Jumped on the highway twice and kept up, even passed a few cars. Mileage isn't too bad at about 50-60mpg mixed riding. Thanks goes to Speedy for providing a huge amount of tuning advice and the exhaust! To Dave at strokeitimports for the the engine, crank and other parts. Lastly all those people out there with fast scoots who where my inspiration.
