The two images above show the original factory team of Vespa ‘Sei Giorni’ scooters testing on the Italian racing circuit at Monza at the end of the International Six Days Trial after which the later production scooters were named. The Sei Giorni Vespas featured trimmed legshields, the option of 8″ or larger 10″ wheels, extended fuel tanks, more powerful engines and a number of other features. Some of these features apparently evolved over the next couple of years during the Vespa ‘Sei Giorni’ Racer’s very short production run. The final image here was taken in 1953 and shows the arrival in Brescia of rider Mauro Nesti on a Vespa Sei Giorni after completing a 1000 kilometres stage of the Six Days Trial. This is believed to be one of the later ‘production’ Vespa Racers produced by Piaggio and labelled ‘Sei Giorni’.

The Vespa “Six Days” differs from the latter in terms of the tank, the all-round label and a larger carburetor on the right-hand side. It owes its name to participation in the twenty-sixth edition of the “6 giorni” (6 days) event in 1951, where it won 9 gold medals. The Piaggio racing team at the time included Biasci, Cau, Crabs, Mazzoncini, Merlo, Nesti, Opesso, Riva, Romano and Vivaldi. The Vespa 125 “Six days” also won the 1951 Italian Motorcycle Federation Award, in which three pilots with Italian Vespa models stole the show from everyone else (Giuseppe Cau, Miro Riva, Bruno Romano).
