The famous Polini mufflers for Vespa PX 125/150 and PE 200 have been revised and refined, by reviewing the dimensions of the expansion; extra care has been taken with the drawing of the curve which has been fully re-designed. Performance have been substantially improved, especially regarding acceleration and maximum speed. The new version of the silencer is in black anodized aluminium and the cap is removable to allow the replacement of the sound-absorbing material. All the latest updates have been made starting from the technical data acquired during the races for Vespa Endurance, since all the components are subject to great stress due to the long hours of riding.
History [ edit ]The Vespa PX was first presented in 1977 in Milan as the nuova linea model (new line). It was distributed as Vespa P 125 X and as Vespa P 200 E with an electronic ignition (E for Elettronica) and since 1978 as Vespa P 150 X. This electronic ignition was introduced to the other models, which then were called Vespa PX125E and Vespa PX150E, and in 1982 the Vespa P 200 E was called Vespa PX200E. This was marketed as the Vespa PX 125 T5 Classic. Production of the PX ended in early 2017 as the PX engine failed to meet Euro 4 compliance emission requirements.
That basic specification covers all 2-stroke Vespas from 1946 to 2007 including the long-running P150X (Piaggio’s official model designation was VLX 150 PX) and its variants. In many ways, the P150X was the ultimate “real” Vespa, the culmination of 30 years of active development. The PX’s electric start is just a nicety; any Vespa in good condition will start on the first lazy kick. Essentially a license-built 1965 Vespa VLB 150 Sprint, the Chetak remained in production long after its Italian counterpart, gaining a 4-stroke engine in 2002. Vespa also licensed another Indian company, LML, to produce the P150X, from 1986-on, and it’s still available in the U.S. (except California) as the 150 Stella, imported by Chicago’s Genuine Scooters.
