Historically Lambretta was slightly earlier and did not come from aeronautical know-how (they built scaffolding pipes) but as they say from my area, good ideas converge in one place; I am making this speech to reconnect to the topic of the topic. Other scooter manufacturers (I call them mid-scooters) pointed on 14 "wheels against the 7" - 8 "of Lambretta / Vespa due to the state of the roads and Moto Guzzi produced the Galletto with motorcycle wheels; as you can understand, associate the concept of motorcycle to that of scooter has always existed but the arrival of small economic cars (at least in Europe) has curbed the spread of scooters other than the concept linked to the Vespa. With the excessive increase in traffic and the consequent breakdown of the roads derived from it due to the increased maintenance costs, it was decided to also target scooter-like models but with high wheels; Honda initially put the SH 50 on the market and was a sales success, followed by Aprilia built the Scarabeo 50 ... another boom. They started with small displacements and then there was the jump to the 125 cc, Piaggio had the advantage of customer loyalty and made the jump with the Liberty 125 (but there was also the 50); the sequel is history. At a time when motorcycle sales have hit their lowest level in years, Piaggio is focusing on its traditional core business: scooters and mopeds. Piaggio has always been very good at that, starting in 1946 when it created the Vespa. In fact, the Italian outfit is the leading European group in the motorized two-wheel business (okay, two and three wheels, given the MP3). The newest addition to its line of economy/utility people movers is the vastly revised Liberty moped in 125 and 150cc displacements.

I've done the Carlos Fandango oversizing on 5J car tyres in my youth. But not sure you can do that with bike rubber.Loads of rubber clearance to brake/speedo cable.Those wheel rim sizes are copied from the handbook supplied with the bike.
