Piaggio is the number one two-wheel-vehicle manufacturer in Europe; its industrial strength still comes from that stroke of genius known as Vespa—the foundation on which Piaggio rebuilt itself from the rubble of World War II. Piaggio is now celebrating the 75th anniversary of Vespa. Looking back, we must say that Vespa has remained absolutely faithful to its original design and mechanical concepts, just evolving bit by bit around the basic original factors: a pressed steel structure integrating frame and body, powertrain (engine and gearbox) in unit with the rear wheel.

Vespa 75th is a celebration of all the cultural and stylistic milestones of the brand beginning in the 1940s. Vespa was established in 1946 in Pontedera, Italy as a product that provides a simple solution to increasingly complex transit challenges. Vespa is not just a vehicle – it is an icon that has gained global status, embodying style and strength. Vespa 75th pays tribute to this heritage while projecting the brand into the future. In addition to not showing its age, the Vespa 75th special edition proudly flaunts a symbolic number: 75.
This summer, Autoworld found another automotive birthday to celebrate, dedicating its main gallery to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Vespa. The exhibition is arguably about style and feelings, associating Vespa with freedom, joie de vivre, youth, nimbleness, adventure, independence. Vespa has sold almost 19 million scooters worldwide in the past seven+ decades, building 1.8 million in the past decade alone. The 75th anniversary scooters are restyled versions of the Primavera 50 and 150 (US customers also get the GTS300, but not up here). To celebrate the Vespa’s 75th anniversary as a true citizen of the world, a new special series, Vespa 75th, has been created for the Vespa Primavera (in 50 and 150cc models) and the Vespa GTS (300cc). The Vespa 75th body, as always in all-steel, is presented in “Giallo 75th”, an original metallic yellow. Like all Vespa special editions, the series is identified with a plate behind the leg shield.
