Austin had a flurry of scooter activity (and discussion) in 2018, ending the year with seven active companies and more than 11,000 of the dockless vehicles on the streets. The company chose the Austin market for its first launch and has been permitted for 100 scooters. Also unlike the other such companies in town, Ojo has a partnership with a Austin B-cycle operator Bike Share of Austin subsidiary Austin Commuter Scooter. Ojo’s website indicates that its scooters are more durable than some of the “disposable” ones that are out there now, and therefore it’s a more sustainable transportation option. • Scooter company OjO debuts new vehicles—with seats—in Austin [CI]

Vespa must have taken his words to heart, because at EICMA 2019 there’s a new version – the Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h – upping the top speed to, you guessed it, 70 km/h (or 44 mph for the US crowd). Always an innovator, Vespa Elettrica continues to evolve alongside the original version, created for purely urban use and therefore homologated as a moped, with a top speed of 45 km/h, EICMA 2019 sees the début of the Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h. VESPA ELETTRICA 70 KM/H: EVEN MORE POWERFUL AND SILENTSilent, ecological, innovative and today even more powerful: fruit of the Piaggio Group’s experience with the Power Unit and lithium-ion battery, the Vespa Elettrica is now also available in the brand new 70 km/h version. Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h offers standard finishes in Giallo Lampo and is available in three other color variants: Azzurro Elettrico, Cromo and Nero Profondo. The Vespa Elettrica leg cover bears a metal Vespa logo and provides maximum stability even at high speeds.
The new Vespa Primavera 150 and Vespa Sprint 150 made their début on the Chinese market during an event held in Shanghai at the Shangsheng-Xinsuo (the Columbia Circle), a new cultural point of reference for the Chinese city, in a fusion of culture, design, Italian style and fashion. In addition to the new Vespa models, the brand-new Vespa DEC apparel collection was presented. Inspired by the Piaggio factory and museum, this new collection is the expression of the Vespa brand in the lifestyle world, highlighting the finest details of Italian style. The new Vespa Primavera and Sprint represent Vespa’s youngest and most metropolitan soul. The new Vespa models introduce new materials and painstaking craftsmanship of the details to further elevate the global quality of the finishings.

Oregonians who regularly watch the news on KGW-TV will remember Maggie Vespa, the longtime KGW reporter and anchor who worked at the Portland NBC affiliate from 2014 until 2022, when she left to join NBC News as a Chicago-based correspondent. In her first story, Vespa reported on bad behavior by tourists, a piece sparked by the viral video that has sparked international outrage. Before she came to Portland for her job at KGW, Vespa graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. During her time at KGW, Vespa also received national attention because of a segment in which she responded to a viewer’s complaints about her choosing to wear high-waisted pants on the air. Vespa isn’t the first KGW veteran to get national airtime on the “Today” show.
Until 1983, the domestic product offering in the catalogue was limited to fuel system kits consisting of carburettors and manifolds. Thanks to their excellent performance and market success, the kits were designed and manufactured for all models in circulation at the time. For the Vespa 50, two thermal units were available, one of 75cc and one of 102cc. You can expect something different in the next article, something designed to improve the performance of vehicles that are already very fast.
